Harrisburg and Central Pennsylvania is home to many picturesque places and fun things to do, especially in the fall! From apple orchards and corn mazes to incredible views of the leaves changing colors.
We really do have it all.
Living in Harrisburg and Central Pennsylvania means you can go pick your own delicious apples, enjoy a fun-filled Fall festival with hayrides and hike through the many parks with natural beauty.
But if you’ve got back pain – then it becomes tough (and almost impossible) to enjoy all Harrisburg has to offer.
Just the other week, we had 4 people call the office telling us their back pain has ‘flared up’ AGAIN!
And it’s not uncommon that we hear these flare-ups mean activities and family days outside (things that have been planned for a while), have to be rain-checked and put aside for another day…
…until their back pain goes away.
Which is very unlikely it will go away on its own, and even if it does, there’s a good chance it’ll just flare up again.
Anyway, here’s 5 great places to see/things to do in Harrisburg and Central Pennsylvania (that a lot of our patients have told us they can’t because their back is so bad and they’re scared it’ll put them on the sidelines for a lot longer).
1. Boyd Big Tree Preserve Conservation Area
This is one of Pennsylvania’s newest parks and it’s a wonderful place to hike! There are many types of trails for beginnger’s to more difficult and challenging paths. It’s a great place to spend a Saturday afternoon outside!
2. Apple Picking
One of the best things about this area is the abundance of apple orchards! It’s a fun way to spend a weekend with kids, or if you love the taste of fresh apple cider like I do, this is the way to go! There’s just something extra tasty about an apple pie made with apples you hand-picked!
3. Hayrides and Pumpkin Patches
Nothing says “Fall” like hayrides and pumpkin patches! Our area has plenty of road-side pumpkins to buy, or you can walk around the fields and pick your own. As many are aware, Harrisburg and Central Pennsylvania has a lot of farmland! That means plenty of places for the little ones to go on hayrides.
4. If you’re brave enough, The Haunted Houses!
With all the wooded areas and historic buildings, you’re bound to run into a local Haunted House attraction! Whether you’re a teenager looking for some fun on the weekend, or an adult that just likes to get scared, Harrisburg and Central PA have tons of Haunted House attractions! Jason’s Woods and Field of Screams are our favorites and they aren’t too far away.
5. Relax With Some Wine
The rolling hills and great countryside make for fantastic backdrops at our area’s many Wineries. Some will allow you to walk amongst the vines and see where the grapes are grown and others make sure you are perfectly comfortable on the patio listening to music and tasting the local, homemade wine. Cider has become more and more popular and many venues in the area are creating their own versions of delicious cider!
If you’ve got back pain – a bad back that’s flared up, has come on out of the blue, or if you’ve been suffering for a while that it’s just become a normal part of your daily life – that doesn’t have to be the case.
